The Catwalk Business Diagnosis

The Catwalk Business Diagnosis

Find out what is really holding your business back, and how strong the evidence is.

When results stall, most businesses change the marketing. Sometimes that is the right move. Often the problem sits inside the business: in how decisions get made, who owns what, how work moves from one person to the next, or whether customers get what the marketing promised. The Diagnosis examines the evidence and identifies where the strongest explanation lies, before you spend more trying to fix the wrong problem.

Written to be read before anything is decided. There is nothing to schedule to continue.

Who It Is For

When marketing is underperforming, the cause is not always marketing.

If the website is not converting, leads have slowed, referrals have gone quiet, or every campaign feels like starting over, there is usually a reason. The Diagnosis is designed for owners who have invested in marketing without getting the return they expected and want a stronger basis for the next decision.

Research Insight

Studies consistently report that about three-quarters of change efforts fail to deliver the anticipated benefits or are abandoned. Anand and Barsoux’s four-year study of 62 corporate transformations suggests that misdiagnosis is as much to blame as poor execution. Starting with evidence is one way to reduce that risk before a decision is made.

Clarity, not implementation, is the deliverable.

What It Examines

Seven conditions, tested against evidence.

The Diagnosis examines the same seven conditions as the Free IBI, this time against evidence gathered from inside and outside the business.

Condition
Where the Diagnosis looks
Leadership and direction
Leadership: how priorities are set, who decides what, and whether decisions turn into action.
Psychological safety and voice
Organizational conditions: whether problems surface early or stay hidden.
Trust and fairness
Organizational conditions: whether commitments are kept and people are treated fairly.
Enablement
Operations: whether people have the tools, information and support the work requires.
Execution
Operations: how work moves from one person to the next, and where handoffs break.
Brand integrity
Customer experience: whether what customers experience matches what the marketing promises.
Marketing integration
Marketing, and market and digital presence: whether marketing connects to the rest of the business, and how the business shows up to the market.

The Diagnosis does not include an employee survey or an organization-wide culture assessment. If the evidence shows one is needed, the Executive Brief will say so.

The Process

Five steps, from the Free IBI to the Executive Brief.

The process moves in order. Nothing is skipped, and no conclusion appears before the evidence that supports it.

The Deliverable

An Executive Brief, built to support a decision.

You do not receive a checklist or a presentation deck. You receive one written document designed to be read in one sitting and returned to as decisions are made. It explains what the evidence supports, what is affecting performance, what deserves attention first, what can wait, and where the business is constrained. Every conclusion is tied to its source and reviewed by Catwalk before it reaches the client.

The goal is not to produce a long list of recommendations. It is to reduce a complicated situation to a smaller set of decisions supported by the evidence.

Executive SummaryThe situation in brief.
Current RealityWhere the business stands today.
FindingsWhat the evidence shows.
Likely CausesWhat the evidence suggests is driving performance, and how strongly.
ConstraintsWhat limits the decisions available.
PrioritiesThe decisions that deserve attention first.
Illustrative example. Not a client finding.

A founder-led professional services firm came in with inconsistent lead flow. The research confirmed the website said little that set the firm apart. But the messaging was inconsistent because two partners disagreed about how the firm should be positioned, and no one owned the handoff between winning work and delivering it. The Executive Brief named the partner disagreement as the first priority, ahead of any change to marketing.

The Diagnosis and the Blueprint

The Diagnosis explains what is happening. The Executive Blueprint defines what to do next.

The Executive Brief tells you what is happening, what is most likely causing it, and what deserves attention first. That is enough for many owners to act on their own.

The Executive Blueprint turns those priorities into a plan: who owns each one, in what order, the first actions and a 90-day direction. In the example above, the Brief says resolve the partner disagreement first. The Blueprint sets out how, who leads it and by when.

The Blueprint is an optional add-on ($1,500), available after the Brief when the findings support it. You decide after you have read the findings.

What is included at each level.

The Business Diagnosis methodology is standardized. Every business receives the same disciplined engagement. The scope of that engagement is shaped by the complexity of the business: the number of stakeholders, the interviews required, the markets involved, and the evidence available to examine.

Executive Blueprint$1,500 add-onAvailable after the Executive Brief, when the findings support a Blueprint. Priorities, workstreams, sequencing, ownership, first actions, and a 90-day direction. $2,497 total with the $997 Business Diagnosis.
Expanded scopeDetermined after intakeLarger or more complex businesses may require additional interviews, markets, or evidence. If so, the scope and price are confirmed before work begins.

The method remains consistent. The scope reflects the complexity of the business. The full investment is laid out plainly on the Begin page.

The First Step

Start with the Free IBI.

The most expensive decisions are often made before the problem is fully understood. That is why the Business Diagnosis does not come first. You start with the Free IBI, which shows how you currently see the business.

If you haven’t taken the Free IBI yet, we’ll send you the link first. It takes ten minutes.
